one line a day, in seconds.

the one line a day diary is an old idea: a small book, five years to a page, a sentence a night. it works because the ask is tiny and the look-back is enormous. you open to today's date and see who you were on this day last year, and the year before that.

the paper version has two problems. it lives on a shelf, and by year three the handwriting has given up.

the phone version

vapor asks for one word first, then an optional line underneath it. the word is the anchor: it gets counted, drawn, and read back to you. the line is where the day goes if it needs somewhere to go. most days it doesn't.

the calendar shows the words by month. tap any day and the line is there. export the lot as a csv whenever you like, because it is your diary and a diary you can't take with you isn't yours.

what it doesn't do

no prompts, no daily question, no reminders unless you set one, no photos, no sync to a website. it is a small diary, not a life-logging system. that is why it is still being written in year two.
